Ruckus was founded by Arwen O'Connor, Mitchell Hawkes and Nigel Latta in 2016. Collectively they have decades of experience in the television industry creating a broad range of productions — critically acclaimed primetime television series, creative commercial stories and award winning live broadcasts.

Arwen O'Connor


Arwen is an award winning producer with over twenty years of television experience. She manages the tricky task of making sure all of her projects are creative, considered, on budget and on time.

Her roles have included head of production, producer, line producer and executive producer for all variety of genres and she has overseen four New Zealand Film & Television Award winning programmes. Most recently, Arwen has produced Mind Over Money, Awa: Born This Way, The Hard Stuff, Nigel Latta Blows Stuff Up and many more.

Arwen oversees all Ruckus productions.

Mitchell Hawkes


Mitchell has written and directed many prime time series; from Nigel Blows Stuff Up to The Hard Stuff, from Rivers to Cadbury Dream Factory. He has made documentaries like Heavenly Pop Hits: The Flying Nun Story and Dreams Lie Deeper about Dave Dobbyn and the Pike River disaster.

He has written and directed the beautiful off peak series The New Old with Wallace Chapman and he made C4's highest rating show Rocked the Nation. He also wrote the book tie-in for the series.

Mitchell has won a few New Zealand Film & Television Awards for his multi-camera directing. His projects include X Factor, New Zealand's Got Talent as well as concerts for Ed Sheeran, The Topp Twins, Shihad and Lorde.

Nigel Latta


Nigel Latta has a solid reputation as a science communicator and television presenter. A clinical psychologist with over twenty years experience he has been writing and presenting consistently top-rating television series for the last eight years. He has a unique ability to connect with viewers and translate complex topics into relatable and entertaining content.

Nigel Blows Stuff Up, showcased his gift for making complicated science interesting, accessible and fun. The Hard Stuff showed how he could get to the bottom of difficult topics. And with Mind Over Money Nigel made a series about finances that became must-see-tv, winning its time-slot against the established brands 'My Kitchen Rules' and 'The Block Australia'.
