You’ve BEEN
SCAMMED
BY NIGEL LATTA
The idea for a television documentary to help prevent scams in New Zealand originated with the Banking Ombudsman Scheme. They rallied the banking sector to finance a four-part series, which was then created and produced by Ruckus.
On Monday 8 pm, July 3 2023, more than half a million Kiwis watched the first episode of You’ve Been Scammed by Nigel Latta on New Zealand’s largest broadcaster, TVNZ1, less than five months after the idea was first shared with the network!
The series achieved a trifecta of success - impressive ratings, critical acclaim and blanket media coverage. The press coverage alone is estimated to be the equivalent of $1m-$1.2m PR spend.
We are seeing real-world behavioural change and hearing stories of people avoiding scams based on seeing the series. The effects of the show have a long tail: it is available on TVNZ+, Nigel is being invited to present talks around scamming, and like other Ruckus projects, the episodes will be extensively played in classrooms around the country for years to come.
